Chief Financial Officer

An active participant in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) dedicated to its mandate of effective electricity distribution, seeks to employ an experienced and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee its financial strategy and operations on a full-time basis.

The CFO will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial future to satisfy all stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Executive Director (Corporate Services), the successful candidate will oversee all financial functions, including planning, risk management, reporting, and compliance, while driving efficiency and profitability.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

– Corporate Finance and Strategic Financial Planning

  • Define the appropriate liquidity standard that the Company should maintain across all functions
  • Evaluate capital expenditures, investment activities, and portfolio management
  • Provide investment advice, tactics, and recommendations to Executive Management and Heads of Departments
  • Leverage on existing relationships within the industry and investment community as well as seeking to foster and develop new connections and contacts
  • Provide leadership direction and management of the entire finance function
  • Continuously source and secure adequate debt and/or equity funding on favourable terms to support the Company’s existing operations and future growth plans
  • Formulate and implement strategies to maximize returns on idle funds available within the Company through low-risk investments while ensuring that there is always sufficient cash to meet financial obligations associated with the company’s day-to-day operations
  • Formulate and coordinate efficient processes to forecast revenue and expenses and for forecasts to be presented for products
  • Setup processes to determine funding requirements as well as map such requirements to available sources of funds
  • Formulate and implement financial modelling approaches to accurately determine profitability on various basic units associated with business models across the company to guide pricing and predict/scrutinize ROI
  • Setup seamless, and where possible, automated operations for recognizing expenses and revenue as well as processing expense payments, collecting cash, and generating reports
  • Engage with existing and potential new investors to provide financial and related information required pre- and post-investment along with additional communication to establish a favourable impression of the Company
  • Oversee and coordinate preparation of all financial reports as required by various internal stakeholders while ensuring compliance with all contractual, regulatory and government policy requirements
  • Oversee the provision of all required information to internal and independent auditors during audit engagements and ensure that all audit issues are resolved according to agreed schedule.
  • Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings and serve as lead personnel on the Audit/Finance Committees.

– Risk and Control

  • Advise top management on risk-related issues that can impact the strategic direction of the business.
  • Use hedging to mitigate financial risks related to the interest rates on the company’s borrowings, as well as on its foreign exchange positions
  • Oversee bank account management and payment transactions to ensure compliance with the appropriate procedures and approval authority

– Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as company representative to financial/investment community and shareholders
  • Work with management to ensure success through cost analysis support and compliance with all requirements
  • Review all investment proposals with the Managing Director/CEO
  • Advise management and provide input on the funding, debt and cash-flow implications of the corporate strategy, goals, plans and projects

– Leadership and People Management

  • Provide overall leadership to the Finance division
  • Support the implementation and facilitation of relevant workshops and training courses
  • Promote the the Company’ core values and a strong team culture
  • Manage the day-to-day performance, learning and development of the team, including one on one
  • feedback sessions and conduct performance appraisal

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of first degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related Field
  • Professional certification in Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
  • Successful qualification as a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • MBA or Masters’ degree in a related field is a bonus Experience
  • At least 10 years of related work experience from any industry
