Business Development Manager

Job Purpose:

The overall job purpose is to develop a profitable Life Insurance portfolio (i.e., both Retail and Corporate Business) through all available distribution channels in Uganda. This will involve efficient management and development of relationships with Banks, brokers, FAs, IFAs, Unit Managers, ADC, Partners outlets and Regional Service Managers to grow revenues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1.  Develop and implement a business development strategy to establish the company’s presence and drive market penetration.
  2.  Build and establish a strong market presence, focusing on customer acquisition and brand awareness.
  3.   Develop and execute key sales growth strategies, tactics, and action plans to expand the customer base and drive premium revenue.
  4. Drive ownership of the product portfolio strategy, ensuring quality business through a well-balanced mix of life insurance products.
  5. Design and implement sales incentives to drive new business acquisition while ensuring the retention of existing policyholders.
  6.  Conduct market research to understand customer needs, industry trends, and regulatory developments, identifying suitable distribution channels.
  7. Manage product development, sales, and marketing costs to ensure the long-term sustainability and profitability of the business.
  8. Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and operations teams to develop innovative and customer-centric life insurance products.
  9. Design a competitive and seamless customer experience across all life insurance products.
  10. Ensure all product information and training materials are aligned with the company’s value proposition and market needs.
  11. Identify and explore new product opportunities to support business growth and differentiation in the market.
  12. Monitor regulatory changes and oversee product impact analysis to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  13. Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and banking partners to drive business growth, ensuring consistent revenue generation through strategic partnerships, targeted sales initiatives, and effective collaboration on insurance solutions.
  14. Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing Financial Advisor (sales) team to drive business growth.
  15. Lead, coach, and manage the performance of sales and distribution teams to achieve set targets.
  16. Work closely with actuarial and underwriting teams to optimize pricing, product mix, and profitability of life insurance offerings.
  17. Represent the company professionally to key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and regulators.
  18. Monitor and manage client portfolios to ensure policyholder retention and portfolio profitability.
  19. Operate within the approved Delegated Authority Matrix.
  20. Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

    • Achievement of set sales and revenue targets.
    • Growth of distribution channels and partnerships.
    • Customer satisfaction and retention rates.

    • Effective execution of strategic business plans.

 

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  2. Professional qualification in Insurance (ACII, CII, DIU) or equivalent or currently pursuing
  3. 8+ years successful relevant experience, 5 of which must be in a management position (financial services sector preferred).
  4. Knowledge of the Insurance industry (Required)
  5. Results orientated with the ability to set KPIs and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets
  6. Resilient, dynamic, energetic, and enthusiastic. Must be highly driven and enjoy working with people.
  7. Able to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to foster and maintain successful working relationships
  8. Digital marketing experience, preferably in a related industry
  9.  Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the organisation, including executive and C-level.
