Job Objective/Purpose
To implement systems which ensure that Avenue Healthcare defined policies, protocols, procedures and standards are adhered to by all medical staff in AHC facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1.A Branch Manager will perform the following people management duties as guided by Avenue HR policies and in coordination with the HR Department;
a. Efficient Staffing – Liaise with SMT/HR to ensure optimal staff levels as well as efficient use of overtimes, locums and prudent leave management.
b. Identify training gaps and liaise with HR to facilitate training
c. Reward,  Recognition and Discipline – Ensure that deserving staff are recognized/rewarded and disciplinary action (with proper cause) is undertaken without undue delay and per defined policies
2.Ensure that the unit has the following required resources;
a. An updated consultants panel, updated locum pool
b. Ensure that the facility has the necessary equipment and ensure that they are in good working conditions
3.Ensure the facility is financially viable and demonstrate growth;
a. Growth
-Ensure quality of Care & Service hence ensuring high patient retention rates by achieving high patient satisfaction rates and NPS scores.
b. Ensure financial objectives are met by;
-Managing costs within budget.
-Timely and accurate billing of drugs and services.
4.Accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
5.Initiate and maintain proper management and treatment of patients
6.Appropriate and early consultation and referral of patients to specialists
7.Undertake clinical procedures per training.
8.Conducting appropriate CMEs to the staff
9.Participation in incident reporting, root cause analysis and Quality Improvement Plan
10.Review of medical reports and provision of patient updates to insurance companies when required
11.Review and act on quality indicator reports, implement MQ’s Quality Improvement Plans
12.Maintain and enforce infection control standards;
13.Prevention of medication errors by verifying the prescription, doses, allergies, patient identification and right drug; legible prescriptions
14.Proper documentation for patient notes and proper review; consulting with fellow clinicians, consultants when need be.
15.Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients
16.Ensure that the resources needed to provide quality care are available for each patient in the unit (required HR, equipment, supplies, services).Report and escalate any deficiencies to the Branch/Hospital Manager.
17.Maintain a positive work attitude and foster team work.
18.Ensure that Avenue’s corporate governance policies are adhered to.
a. Prevent, detect and report any fraud or criminal activity
b. Implement audit recommendations
19.Patient satisfaction;
Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback and escalation through the standardized tool for patient satisfaction measurement and demonstrate follow-up and improvement
20.Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
21.Ensure adequate knowledge of all Avenue policies, procedures and systems as outlined in the HRMIS.
22.Any other duty as assigned by your immediate supervisor in line with the job description
23.Environment, Health and Safety Duties
a. In Liaison with the Facility Manager/ESG Manager, conduct inspections to identify risks -both existing and potential and a plan of action to address the risks. Also updating the risks identified on the facility risk register.
b. Preparing the staff and local Communities/Stakeholders on responding to emergencies in line with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP) procedures;
c. Handle incidences at the facility level including participation in investigations / RCAs and overseeing staff recovery and return to work;
Person Specification
A medical degree (MBChB) or BSC in Nursing.
A master’s degree or a relevant post graduate training in healthcare management would be an added advantage
A valid professional practicing license
At least 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial role in healthcare
Organizational awareness and detail-oriented
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork and reliability
