Founded in 2011, CorpsAfrica provides the opportunity for young Africans to serve as volunteers in their own countries, along the lines of the Peace Corps model. We train highly motivated college graduates and send them to live for up to one year in rural, high-poverty communities in their own countries to facilitate small-scale, high-impact projects identified by local people. Overview of the Position:

The Bookkeeper is a full-time staff member reporting to the Country Director of CorpsAfrica/Kenya. He/She must be effective, working independently as well as part of a team. He/She should also possess a demonstrated passion and commitment to ensuring compliance for reporting all financial and accounting procedures to donors and the Board.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage all financial operations for CorpsAfrica/Kenya, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, ledger management, and reconciliations
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial reports (including Financial Statements), ensuring accuracy and compliance with local regulations
  • Support implementation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly internal reporting and budgeting processes
  • Maintain budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure alignment with company financial objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all local tax regulations, e.g. PAYE, corporate taxes, etc, and liaise with tax authorities as needed
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely submission of required documentation
  • Establish and improve financial processes and controls to enhance efficiency and reduce risk
  • Oversee all the procurement processes for CorpsAfrica/Kenya, ensuring adherence to procurement policy and donor requirement
  • Support CorpsAfrica/Kenya projects activities by efficient and effective Financial and Procurement processes
  • Work closely with the global finance team to align local operations with the Global Support Office’s broader financial goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field. A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required, with prior experience in the NGO sector being highly advantageous
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and registered with ICPAK
  • Broad financial skills (including experience with budgeting, planning, and accounting) and a knack for staying on top of details, including the “boring nitty-gritty”
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to manage financial operations, improve processes, and implement controls
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with global and local teams
  • High level of reliability, integrity, and confidentiality in handling financial information
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office (particularly Excel), SAGE, and QuickBooks
