Position Description:
EDI Global seeks an early to mid-career professional with focus on data expertise to support the technical delivery of several high-profile projects recently secured by the company. This is a full-time staff position based in Nairobi, Kenya or Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Associate Consultant – Data Managementat EDI Global is key to delivering project outputs and driving data-informed decision-making, with a strong focus on configuring complex surveys using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) software. The successful candidate will work closely with Data Managers, supporting and overseeing their work to ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency. This includes managing survey design, configuration, and execution, alongside overseeing data management and cleaning tasks. The role also involves conducting comprehensive analyses of quantitative and qualitative data, producing reports that inform project strategies and assess impact. Ensuring data integrity throughout the project lifecycle is essential, as well as participating in rigorous quality control processes.
Position Responsibilities:
Questionnaire Development and Configuration
- Work closely with Data Managers, other members of our survey team, client representatives and partners to develop questionnaires tools or modules based on previous experience to achieve study objectives.
- Review paper questionnaires for accuracy, clarity, and consistency and evaluate skips and routing instructions for effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Desk-test survey tools and troubleshoot configuration issues related to complex questionnaire routings.
- Conduct advanced configurations, including complex relevance, constraints, and rosters.
- Conduct training to interviewers and supervisors on using CAPI software and collecting high quality data.
- Test and adopt new features released from CAPI software.
Data Management and Cleaning
- Understand and execute the data cleaning processes, including making necessary changes to variable values to ensure correct observations.
- Independently develop high-frequency checks and propose innovations in data check templates using specialised statistical software.
- Conduct essential data transformations, such as merging/appending datasets and reshaping data to wide/long formats.
- Analyse quality control data, including comparing original interviews with reinterviews and auditing the paradata of the interviews.
- Set up dashboards to monitor data quality using data visualization tools such as Looker Studio, PowerBI and DevResults.
Data Analysis
- Design and execute comprehensive analysis plans for diverse projects, employing appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
- Utilise specialised software and tools (e.g., Stata, Python, NVivo) to conduct analyses and address specific research questions.
- Analyse complex datasets using statistical software and techniques to answer research questions and evaluate programs.
- Interpret and synthesize findings from quantitative and qualitative analyses, drawing clear and actionable conclusions.
- Design and create clear, informative, and engaging data visualizations that effectively communicate key findings to diverse audiences.
Qualifications:
This role is open to applicants who have an existing legal right to work in Kenya. EDI Global is also open to applicants with an existing legal right to live and work in Tanzania.
The role is ideally suited to a candidate with experience of data management, data analysis and questionnaire design for evaluation and research projects, with strong technical skills on topics, such as questionnaire configuration in CAPI software, data management and data analysis of large and complex datasets in statistical software.
More specifically, the successful candidate should have at minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, data science, statistics, public policy, mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a data analyst role, demonstrating proficiency in quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.
- Demonstrable experience in programming languages in recent projects like Python, R, Stata or MATLAB for data management. Proficiency in Stata is highly desired.
- Proficiency in CAPI software programming like SurveyCTO, ODK, SurveySolutions, KoboToolbox, with experience in at least 3 projects.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and data cleaning techniques, with experience in at least 3 projects.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within a team environment, adapting to changing priorities and project scope.
- Experience in contributing to project planning, including setting timelines, with team members, and monitoring progress to ensure that data analysis outputs align with team milestones and project goals.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English and Kiswahili (both written and spoken).
