Assistant HR Officer

The position

The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network and one of the largest private, not-for-profit, non-denominational educational networks in the developing world. AKES, Kenya operates 11 schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret and provides nursery to senior secondary education in both the national and international curricula.

Assistant Human Resource Officer

We are looking for a skilled Assistant HR Officer to provide support to the HR function in providing efficient and effective end-to-end HR services.

Key Deliverables/Responsibilities

Assist with day-to-day operations of the HR functions and duties.

  • Compile and update employee records (hard and soft copies).
  • Provide administrative support in the Human Resource department.
  • Handle all employee welfare issues including all staff insurances and engagement initiatives
  • Process documentation and prepare reports and HR metrics
  • Assist in training, performance evaluations, exits and other HR issues
  • Coordinate HR projects (meetings, training, surveys, etc.) and take minutes.
  • Deal with employee requests regarding human resources issues, rules, and regulations
  • Assist in handling complaints and grievance procedures.
  • Coordinate communication with candidates and schedule interviews.
  • Conduct initial orientation & induction of newly hired employees.
  • Assist our recruiters to source candidates and coordinating the recruiting process up to the induction.
  • Participate in employee disciplinary procedure
  • Assist to ensure compliance with HR Policy and all processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or Business degree with a focus on Human Resource Management.
  • Member of the IHRM(K)
  • CHRP will be an added advantage
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an HR & Admin role within an educational or not-for-profit organization.
  • Hands-on experience in record management and HR Metrics,
  • Knowledge of Kenya labour laws, government regulations on workplace and employment and HR best practice
  • Proficiency in IT with experience in HRIS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill
