PURPOSE:
The Assistant Business Developer plays a pivotal role in driving business growth and ensuring
sound underwriting practices combined with strategic business development acumen and in-
depth underwriting expertise to analyze risks & determine whether the risk is worth
accommodating and at what ideal premium to charge and respective risk mitigation initiatives to
minimize future risk exposure.
KEY PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Collaborate with various departments to identify and exploit cross-marketing opportunities.
 Develop and implement strategies to increase cross-selling and up-selling to existing clients.
 Monitor the renewal process to ensure timely engagement with clients.
 Communicate effectively with clients to discuss renewals, address their needs, and offer
appropriate insurance solutions.
 Ensure renewals engagements are completed within set company timelines.
 Engage the reinsurance team promptly on various classes of cover.
 Negotiate policy terms and premiums to ensure they are agreed upon in a timely manner.
 Ensure risk surveys are conducted for risks classified under CLASS 3, 4, and 5.
 Oversee the implementation of recommendations for risk improvement based on survey
findings.
 Ensure full adherence to the underwriting branch manual.
 Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting records.
 Recruit and manage relationships with intermediaries to foster strong partnerships.
 Ensure the best possible relationship with intermediaries through consistent communication
and support.
 Provide timely and accurate insurance quotations to clients and intermediaries.
 Ensure all quotations are competitive and meet client needs.
 Ensure full compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
 Adhere to all regulatory and company policies, including credit control measures.
 Monitor and manage the credit control process to ensure timely payment of premiums.
 Work closely with the finance team to resolve any issues related to premium payments
 Any other work that may be allocated to you by your supervisor.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
 AIIK Diploma/CII

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
 At least 4 years relevant experience
 Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and insurance products
