Summary
The Area Coordinator role involves overseeing and managing the forestry operations within a specific area or region.
She/he is responsible for the planning, budgeting, execution, coordination, and completion of a range of forestry activities, such as seedlings raising, planting, and management of trees, as well as advice on pests and diseases management. The Area Coordinator needs to be able to work independently and as part of a team, while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and legislations.
She/he will also be responsible for managing the budget, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and developing and maintaining good relationships with the local community.
Duties
- Planning, supervising, budgeting, and accounting for the facilitation of field activities i.e., provision of materials, transport facilitation, allowances, and salaries for the area.
- Leading and developing a team of dedicated and highly productive personnel
- Ensuring safety and environmental regulations are adhered to.
- Ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
- Proper documentation of all activities in line with company guidelines.
- Conducting field visits to the districts of operation to identify and resolve issues or make timely referrals.
- Implement activities at the district and field levels by the approved work plan and budgets.
- Conduct action research, as required, and document the process and key findings in forestry or agricultural sectors.
- Supervise and instruct the Branch Coordinators and Parish Coordinators to organize environmental sensitization in the local community and to make the community aware of the importance of tree planting and the Kijani model.
- Organize with the help of the Branch Coordinators to distribute tree seeds and materials to the different parishes.
- Organize workshops and meetings at the area level to equip the staff for improved performance and progress reporting.
- Facilitate planning and establishing community nurseries and demonstration plots.
- Initiate and implement meeting sessions with the leaders of farmer groups for experience sharing.
- Facilitate in identifying best performing farmers and groups to help inform the company on who and how to incentivize.
- Coordinate with the district line agencies and other key stakeholders in planning and implementing field-level activities in a coordinated way.
- Participate in relevant events organized by other stakeholders at the district level by the company policies.
- Coordinate with the district government line agencies, local NGOs, media, and private sector, and other relevant networks for greater learning of new ideas, experiences, and good practices.
- Perform any other duties within the company as required by the Management.

Requirements
- A minimum of a Diploma in forestry or a related field, a degree is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of forest management practices
- Knowledge of computer use especially Microsoft applications (Words, Spreadsheets, and Internet)
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to ride a motorbike
- A riding permit is a Must have
