EMI Uganda has worked in the Ugandan design and construction space for over 20 years, providing thoughtful, participatory designs for ministry partners that spread the gospel and serve poor and marginalized communities across Eastern Africa. We have mentored numerous young design professionals, guiding and discipling them in the field, and exposing them both professionally and culturally to our diverse, gospel-focused Christian community.
To better serve our ministry partners and meet the growing needs of our office team, EMI Uganda is seeking an Architectural Designer to join our staff via the EMI Fellowship program. The fellowship, an early-career program, is an opportunity for deeper spiritual and professional growth and development in understanding EMI’s heart for design, discipleship, and diversity. Based initially out of EMI Uganda, an Architectural Designer Fellow would join a cohort of designers from other EMI offices around the world, learning and growing both professionally and personally with mentorship from more experienced staff and EMI Network members. The Fellowship balances architectural responsibilities of project design, site supervision, and coordination with our multidisciplinary and diverse team, with spiritual and personal development, and offers the opportunity to be mobilized to develop further in another one of EMI’s over 10 offices around the world.
In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:
Vibrant Christian faith
- Minimum B. Arch/M. Arch (or associated architectural) degree
- Practical Architectural work experience (4+ years preferred)
- Experience in Architectural Design Software (AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup desirable)
- Able to work and collaborate well in multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Uganda
The following are potential responsibilities, depending on applicant’s background and interests:
- Participate in EMI’s office programmes and inter-office programmes which can include coordination of discipleship, project trip planning and coordination and engagement within industry.
