We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Animal Health Specialist
Location: Nigeria
Key Responsibilities
Animal Health & Disease Control:
- Develop and implement disease prevention, surveillance, and control strategies.
- Monitor livestock for signs of illness and coordinate timely veterinary interventions.
- Ensure adherence to national and international animal health regulations.
- Train farmers and stakeholders on biosecurity and best practices in animal health management.
Disease-Free Zone Assessment & Fattening Centers:
- Identify and assess potential disease-free locations for animal fattening.
- Implement biosecurity protocols to maintain disease-free zones.
- Work with local veterinary authorities and regulatory bodies to certify disease-free sites.
Supply Chain & Market Linkage:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to link fattening centers with slaughterhouses.
- Ensure a seamless and traceable meat supply chain for export markets.
- Support compliance with global meat export standards (OIE, EU, USFDA, etc.).
- Work with logistics teams to ensure efficient movement of animals and meat products.
Regulatory Compliance & Certification:
- Ensure compliance with Nigeria’s livestock and meat export regulations.
- Facilitate necessary health inspections, certifications, and documentation for export.
- Liaise with international regulatory bodies to meet market entry requirements.
Research & Development:
- Stay updated on emerging livestock diseases, treatment protocols, and best practices.
- Conduct research on improving livestock health and productivity.
- Recommend technological innovations to enhance meat safety and quality.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in animal health, livestock management, or veterinary services.
- Ability to work in rural and remote locations to assess fattening centers.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and livestock health management software is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of livestock diseases, biosecurity measures, and meat safety regulations.
- Experience working with stakeholders in livestock supply chains and export markets.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel within Nigeriafor training and inspections.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Passion for animal health, welfare, and sustainable livestock management.
