Job Description:
The Advocate will be responsible for handling a variety of legal matters, including attending court sessions, preparing legal documents, conducting legal research. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional legal acumen, outstanding advocacy skills, and the ability to provide sound legal counsel to clients. You will work closely with our legal team to provide high-quality legal services to our clients.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from recognized institution.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC or its equivalent.
- 5+ years of post-enrollment experience as an Advocate in a reputable law firm.
- Must hold a valid practicing certificate.
- Strong skills.

- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Court Representation: Attend court represent clients in legal proceedings, sessions, and handle case files from inception to completion.
- Document Review: Review legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, agreements, and other legal paperwork, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
- Legal Research: Conduct in-depth legal research to support cases, interpret laws, rulings, and regulations, and provide legal opinions on various legal issues.
- Legal Document Drafting: Prepare, draft, and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, contracts, legal opinions, and other necessary paperwork for court or client needs.
- Client Consultation: Provide legal advice and consultation to clients their rights, obligations, and courses of action based on the law.
- Case Management: Manage and maintain case files and ensure timely progress of cases through the courts.
- Negotiation & Mediation: Assist in negotiations and settlement discussions to resolve disputes without litigation, where necessary.
- Compliance & Due Diligence: Ensure that clients comply with legal and regulatory requirements, conduct due diligence on various legal matters, and review corporate policies and procedures.
- Other Duties: Carry out other related duties assigned by the Managing Partner.
Terms of Reference:
Reporting Line: The Advocate will report to the Managing Partner of Nabasa & Co. Advocates.
Contract Type: Full-time employment, subject to renewal upon satisfactory performance.
Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Location: The Advocate will be based at Nabasa & Co. Advocates’ offices in Kampala but may be required to travel within Uganda for court attendance and client
Working Hours: Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility to handle urgent cases and court attendances outside normal working hours when necessary.
