Advocacy and Communications Officer

Schools and Colleges Permaculture Programme (SCOPE – Kenya) is a local development organization based in Ruiru. The organization works with school communities, to improve food sovereignty and environmental conservation across Kenya, through agroecology approaches.

SCOPE Kenya is hiring an Advocacy and Communications Officer, to enhance internal and external information management and advocacy, to influence policies supporting agroecology in schools and communities. Qualified Kenyans are encouraged to apply stating their salary expectation.

This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of renewal.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and oversee both external and internal communication and information management within the organization.
  • Coordinate the organization’s advocacy efforts to influence policies.
  • Resource mobilization to support advocacy activities.
  • Support the implementation project activities in liaison with other Programme staff.

Qualifications and experience:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and International Relations. Having a background in Environmental Studies, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in advocacy, communications, or public relations, preferably in agroecology, agriculture, or environmental sector.
  • Experience in policy engagement, lobbying, and working with government institutions.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling communication materials.
  • Proficiency in social media management, website administration, and digital marketing tools.
  • Experience in event planning and stakeholder coordination.
  • Knowledge of agroecology, food systems, and climate change issues is highly desirable.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms and digital communication channels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Experience working with Kenyan government agencies, and NGO’s.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan media landscape.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, video editing, and website management tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
