ACCOUNTANTS (2 POSITIONS)
Job Summary
- Performing accounting duties in the assigned accounts department section.
- Assisting in producing management reports
- Support Senior Accountants and CFO in the discharge of their duties.
Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Ensure that branches have sufficient petty cash and that reimbursements are done for authentic expenses on a timely basis.
- Communicate with branches on all issues touching on finances and receipting.
- Updating movement of fixed assets
- Accounting for transactions relating to Tied Life Agents ranging from commission processing and deductions made.
- Resolving agents’ complaints and issues raised to finance.
- Staff loans and agents’ balances reconciliation.
- Preparing sundry debtors and creditors.
- Preparing designated bank reconciliations and checking assigned the bank reconciliations for the company.
- Checking and ensuring all the journals have been posted.
- Updating bank balances daily and transferring funds from all the branches.
- Assisting the CFO and FM in producing management reports.
- Assisting the finance team, internal auditors and external auditors during audit exercises
- Following up and ensuring accurate recording and accounting for investments of the compan!
- Checking and verifying payments and ensuring all payments made by the company are accurately recorded and settled in timely
manner - Liaising and coordinating with banks on issues such as opening bank accounts and introducing known agents among others.
- Responsible for checking and reviewing the work of the accounts assistants.
Core technical competencies and skills required for the role
- Computer literacy, especially Ms Excel and Access; familiarity with accounting software is a definite advantage
- Interest in and ability to streamline accounting process systems (manual and automated) to achieve added efficiency and robustness
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external audit.
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Solid interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels and functions
- Strong team player, organised and creatively working to improve processes.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written format
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and taxes applicable.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting standards and practices.
- Possess good analytical and problem solving skills with attention to details.
- Ability to train, develop and manage performance of less experienced staff.
Qualifications
- A relevant University degree
- Professional qualification (CPA /ACCA) with at least 2 years’ relevant work experience
