The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF’s support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

HJFMRI is seeking a Accountant to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the Regional Office to ensure timely monthly closings and reconciliations.
  • Manage general ledger entries including accounts payables, receivables, travel advances and liquidations, and wire transfers
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, in compliance with monthly closing schedule.
  • Prepare necessary reports and filings in compliance with Statutory reporting and regulations in Kenya.
  • Assist with the preparation of routine and ad hoc financial reports as requested by Regional Accounting Supervisor.
  • Maintain proper records of all accounting transactions including digital records of monthly payment vouchers as per SOP
  • Respond to accounting issues, concerns, and questions in a timely manner to ensure smooth and efficient operations and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned or as otherwise required to successfully manage HJFMRI’s regional financial support operations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Accounting from a recognized institution.
  • Professional accounting certification, such as CPA, ACCA is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in a busy accounting environment preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft office applications.
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of Kenya statutory reporting requirements and regulations.
  • Must have hands-on experience working with accounting software package.
  • Must have knowledge and experience within other accounting areas and bookkeeping.
  • Must have strong understanding of internal controls and confidentiality matters.
  • Must have familiarity with audit and compliance requirements of US Government funded projects.
  • Work experience within a medical research setting is preferred.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
