Shipping Assistant

Job Summary:

Exquisite Solution Limited, a leading HR recruitment and management firm, is seeking a Shipping Assistant on behalf of our client. The role involves supporting the importation of raw materials from overseas suppliers and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with contracted clearing agents to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of raw materials.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing weekly reports on raw material consumption and stock status.
  • Support the Shipping Executive in tracking raw material orders.
  • Collaborate with the Shipping Executive and Accounts Department to prepare purchase orders.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure documentation is available before vessel arrival for customs declaration, clearing, and forwarding.
  • Verify international tariff registers to ensure accurate Harmonised System Codes (HSC) and rates for raw material consignments.
  • Work with Accounts and transporters to verify additional cost details for accuracy.
  • Follow up with URA and UNBS to ensure the timely release of raw materials, addressing any queries.
  • Coordinate the shipment of finished paint products for export, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted on time.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished products, alerting management when stock levels require replenishment.
  • Ensure proper labelling and packaging of raw materials for transport in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Liaise with the production team to schedule deliveries and ensure timely receipt of raw materials to avoid production delays.
  • Perform other duties and errands on behalf of the Shipping Executive as required.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Business, Procurement and Logistics Management, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Entry-level position.
  • One year of experience in logistics or imports is an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of international tax regulations.
  • Decisive and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of URA procedures is a plus.
