Job Overview
The Storekeeper manages and maintains the inventory of goods and supplies within the warehouse or storage area. This role involves receiving, storing, and distributing materials and ensuring that inventory levels are accurate and properly documented. The Storekeeper plays a key role in maintaining an efficient supply chain and ensuring the timely availability of necessary materials.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of stock levels, ensuring all items are correctly labeled and tracked.
- Conduct regular stock checks, reconciliations, and audits to verify inventory accuracy.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate with procurement for reordering when necessary.
Receiving and Inspection:
- Receive and inspect incoming deliveries, verifying the quality, quantity, and specifications of goods against purchase orders.
- Log received items into the inventory system, and report any discrepancies or damaged goods.
Storage and Organization:
- Arrange and organize stock in the storage area to maximize space and facilitate easy access.
- Implement and maintain best practices for stock organization and cleanliness following health and safety regulations.
Issuing Materials:
- Distribute materials to relevant departments or personnel as requested, ensuring accurate records are kept of all issued items.
- Ensure that items issued are signed for and that proper documentation is maintained.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of all transactions related to stock movements, such as receipts, issues, and adjustments.
- Prepare regular reports on inventory levels, stock usage, and potential shortages.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all storage areas comply with company policies and safety standards, including the safe handling of hazardous materials when applicable.
- Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues in the storage area to the Warehouse Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: OND or BSC in Accounting or any related field.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a storekeeper, inventory clerk, or in a similar role.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and basic computer skills.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to lift and handle materials of varying weights.
- Basic math skills for record-keeping and reconciliation.
Working Conditions
- This role may require physical activity, including lifting and moving materials.
- The Storekeeper may work in a warehouse environment, subject to varying temperatures and conditions.
