The Role:

The Communications Intern will be an integral part of the communications team of the Africa Program at the Center. They will support various functions related to communications, including but not limited to content review, branding, and event management. This role is designed to provide practical experience in a dynamic work environment, offering exposure to diverse tasks within the realm of communications.

Objective:

The primary objective of the Communications Intern is to assist the team in executing various communication strategies, enhancing brand presence and visibility, and facilitating efficient daily operations. The intern will gain hands-on experience in managing communication functions, content management, event coordination, and collaborative projects.

The internship will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. This internship will be for a period of 6 months.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Graphics design:
    • Assist in the creation of visual content for digital and print materials, including social media posts, infographics, presentations, and promotional materials.
    • Collaborate with team members to conceptualize and design graphics that align with brand guidelines and communication objectives.
  • Daily administration:
    • Provide administrative support to the communications team, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and organizing files and documents.
    • Assist in drafting and proofreading internal and external communications, such as articles, newsletters, and reports.
  • Content management:
    • Support content creation efforts by researching, writing, and editing engaging copy for various platforms, including website content, blog posts, and press releases.
    • Help maintain content calendars and ensure timely publication across relevant channels.
  • Events management:
    • Aid in the planning, coordination, and execution of both virtual and in-person events, including workshops, webinars, conferences, and other events.
    • Assist with logistical tasks, such as venue branding and visibility, attendee management, and post-event evaluations.
  • Branding:
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of brand identity guidelines, ensuring consistency across all communication channels.
    • Assist in the creation of branded and visibility materials.
  • Collaborations with teams:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support collaborative projects and initiatives, fostering effective communication and synergy.
    • Coordinate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as needed for joint campaigns or events.
  • Video and Photography
    • Capture high-quality photos and videos from the Center’s events and activities.
    • Maintain an organized image archive and collaborate with teams and partners to provide visual content that enhances our storytelling and communication efforts.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate from a relevant field such as Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and creativity.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems (CMS), event management tools and photography is a plus.

Duration and Remuneration:

  • The internship duration will be 6 months.
  • Remuneration will be provided in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational policies.

Supervision and Support:

  • The Communications Intern will report directly to the Snr. Campaigns and Communications Manager, Africa and receive guidance and mentorship throughout the internship.
  • Regular feedback sessions and performance evaluations will be conducted to track progress and address any challenges or developmental needs.

Compensation: The compensation for this internship is KES 55,000 per month.

Duration: This is a 6-month fixed-term internship.
