Data Design Specialist

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1- Database Development and Management

  • Develop and implement mobile-based data collection tools and methodologies tailored to the specific needs and objectives of various programs.
  • Facilitate smooth data flow and integration between various data collection stages, including Members collections, routine data collections (Quality, GMP, CREDI/ECDI), Monthly Daycare Check-In/Daycare Status Update, Training/CoP, and other field-collected data.
  • Clean, transform, and update collected data into a usable format within the Master Database, ensuring it is accessible to all relevant teams for timely and informed decision-making.
  • Implement data quality assurance measures to validate data accuracy and completeness.
  • Work closely with the Data Operations Specialist to ensure smooth data flow and integration between data collection and analysis stages.

2- Dashboard Design and Maintenance

  • Gathering and understanding business requirements for data visualization and analysis
  • Design and develop data visualizations and dashboards that facilitate data interpretation and reporting.
  • Pilot and test dashboards to ensure optimal user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) for different use cases and user groups.
  • Creating complex DAX calculations and measures to support data analysis
  • Ensure efficient data flow from collection systems to the Semantic Model powering the dashboards.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues in Power BI reports

3- Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making and program improvement.
  • Produce routine monitoring reports (e.g., Quality Spot-checks, GMP, CREDI/ECDI), monthly collections reports (e.g., Honoring Our Commitment, Empowered MMPs Pilot), and study reports (e.g., Comparative Counterfactual Study).
  • Develop and maintain code and scripts to automate routine reports and ensure reproducible analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reports for stakeholder engagement, KPI reporting for donors, and other organizational needs.

4- Data Governance

  • Implement and uphold data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate data documentation and metadata, and manage data access permissions and roles.
  • Ensuring data security and compliance with best practices
  • Work closely with program managers and other stakeholders to determine data requirements and define key performance indicators for effective program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in data design, monitoring, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

  1. Expertise in mobile-based data collection tools and methodologies e.g KOBO Collect, ODK.
  2. Experience with SQL and Python for data manipulation and extraction. Familiarity with data warehouse, delta lakes and lake house concepts is a PLUS.
  3. Experience with data pipeline orchestration and automation and In-depth knowledge of data integration techniques and tools.
  4. Experience in designing and developing data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI. MUST have expertise in leveraging Power BI features, such as DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), Power Query, and custom visuals, to create insightful and dynamic dashboards.
  5. The aesthetic design of UI/UX for dashboards to enhance user experience.
  6. Strong understanding of data modelling and data visualization concepts.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  9. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  10. Adaptability to changing business requirements.
  11. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, or relevant fields.
  12. Power BI experience/certifications are a plus.
