
Swisscontact – the Swiss Foundation for Technical Cooperation, is an independent non-profit
foundation based in Zürich, founded in 1959 by leading figures from the Swiss private sector and Swiss

Swisscontact has been operating in Uganda for more than 25 years, establishing its office in the country
in April 1998. Building on the wider organization’s regional and global experience, Swisscontact in
Uganda strives to support local areas of focus, including skills development, sustainable agriculture,
entrepreneurship, and trade.
Swisscontact is currently recruiting for key positions for an anticipated project in Uganda under
sustainable agriculture thematic area. The project is expected to be funded by funded by ENABEL-
Belgian Development Agency and European Union. The project’s ambition is to transform Uganda’s
horticultural sector into a driver of sustainable economic growth, particularly for young men and
women in rural areas. It aims to create employment and economic opportunities, with a special focus
on green jobs, improve livelihoods, and enhance the economic resilience of 1,600 young Ugandans by
facilitating their participation in both on-farm and off-farm activities along selected horticultural value
chains.
We are looking for a motivated candidate to fill the role of Communications Officer for an anticipated
ENABEL funded project. S/he will play an important role in supporting the implementation of the
organization’s and program’s communication strategies.

Purpose
The Communications Officer will work with the communication team to implement the communication
strategy, along with the mission and vision of Swisscontact in Uganda, to meet departmental
objectives. S/he will provide technical communication support to increase Swisscontact and program
visibility among the public, donors, and partners. This person will closely coordinate with the project
teams to produce various professional communication materials for project activity implementation,
create content to cover progress and results, and publish them on the Swisscontact communication
platforms, primarily the website and social media channels. The role will also support the organization
of internal and external events for Swisscontact and stakeholders, ensuring that Swisscontact and
program branding guidelines are correctly implemented.
Tasks
• Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager, while working closely with the
Regional Communications Coordinator.
• Develop and design communication tools such as booklets, brochures, presentation decks, i-
stands, reports, infographics, merchandise, and others to support program implementation
and increase Swisscontact’s visibility among various audiences.
• Produce and manage multimedia assets such as photos, videos, and web pages to present the
programs’ work to external audiences.
• Develop stakeholder stories and news articles from programs.
• Build and maintain good relationships with media agencies.
• Manage and support websites for Swisscontact program initiatives/partners.
• Manage and support social media accounts for Swisscontact program initiatives/partners.
• Record and report data from communication channels.
• Contribute to the development of Swisscontact’s Communication Strategy.
• Organize and coordinate internal and external events within Swisscontact and with partners.
• Work closely with printing houses and advertising agencies to ensure the standard quality of
publication products.
• Work across Swisscontact programs to ensure all communication materials are consistent and
aligned with the communication guidelines.
Requirements
• Minimum 2-3 years of work experience preferably in entry level roles in the media and
advertisement industry with the desire to transition to development. Or development sector
experience working with economic growth thematic area.
• Bachelor’s degrees in business, Development studies, Journalism, Media, and Economics,
Public Policy, fine arts, Enterprise Development or another related field.
• Good technical skills and knowledge in visual graphics design, photography, video production,
and Content Management Systems (CMS).
• Experience in news writing and storytelling.
• Strong attention to detail, proactivity in communications, and a good understanding of
branding.
• Experience in event management, especially with the private and public sectors.
• Strong ability to work as part of a team, including with government and private sector partners.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to work in challenging and independent environments.
