
The IMF’s Resident Representative Office in Uganda is recruiting a Local Economist. The successful candidate will start work as soon as possible.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Resident Representative, the Local Economist will:
– Monitor economic developments and policies. Proactively identify strengths, problems, and issues.
– Maintain complete, accurate, and current data bases to monitor program performance.
– Be permanently informed of current events in Uganda. Maintain the Uganda team in headquarters
informed of political issues that may have economic and program implications.
– Contribute to research projects carried out by the Uganda team.
– Follow up on technical assistance provided by the Fund teams.
– Develop and maintain effective relationships/contacts with national technical staff, IMF headquarters
staff, development partners, and representatives from the private sector and civil society while
observing the utmost discretion with respect to confidential information.
– Help carry out logistical and technical preparations for missions visiting from headquarters. Prepare
program/background notes for them as requested by the Resident Representative.
– Help the Resident Representative to prepare and carry out outreach events.
– Perform any other duties which may reasonably be required for the smooth functioning of the office
Eligibility requirements:
- An advanced degree (master’s or PhD) in economics or a related field such as finance or statistics.
- At least 5 years’ professional experience for master’s degree holders; at least 2 years’ professional experience for PhD holders.
- An excellent command of English (spoken, read, written).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and at least one econometric or computational package (e.g., Stata, Matlab, Eviews).
