SENIOR REINSURANCE OFFICER

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide support to the Manager Reinsurance by organising for and closely following up the
provision of reinsurance services by SWICO, in accordance with set plans and strategies, as well
as established policies and standards
KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Result Area 1: Planning and organizing for the provision of Reinsurance Services
(i) Participate in the formulation of strategies, work plans and budgets for the provision of
reinsurance services
(ii) Organise for the provision of the required facilities and resources for the provision of
reinsurance services
(iii) Determine performance targets for staff in the position of Reinsurance Officers, and carry
out periodic appraisals of their performance against the set targets
Result Area 2: Ensuring the Effective Provision of Reinsurance Services
(i) Participate in the preparation of the Reinsurance programme
(ii) Arrange facultative insurance for business which exceeds the company’s capacity

(iii) Prepare quarterly reconciliation statements for Insurers and Reinsurers to be submitted to
IRA
(iv) Prepare quarterly reconciliation statements for brokers to be submitted to IRA
(v) Check the preparation of Reinsurance Credit/Debit Notes
(vi) Prepare monthly business production reports
(vii) Prepare cession slips for Facultative Reinsurance
(viii) Prepare preliminary loss advice to facultative and treaty reinsurers
(ix) Prepare half yearly credit notes for Minimum and Deposit premium under excess of loss
treaties
(x) Supervise the preparation of Profit commission statements for surplus treaties
(xi) Supervise the preparation of adjustment accounts under excess of loss treaties
(xii) Supervise the preparation of risk profiles
(xiii) Participate in the preparation of final loss advice to reinsurers
(xiv) Prepare statistical returns to Commissioner of Insurance and reconcile with Accountant
(xv) Prepare Certificate of Reinsurance for inward facultative business
(xvi) Prepare and follow up remittances of re-insurers
(xvii) Supervise the following up on recoveries from re-insurers for claims, and ensure it is
effectively done
(xviii) Participate in the preparation of quarterly reinsurance Bordereaux under surplus treaties
(xix) Prepare quarterly accounts, brokers’ reconciliation, profit commission statements
(xx) Prepare quarterly reports for insurance travel businesses taken on to Mapfre (partner for
travel insurance)
(xxi) Write letters i.e. request for supporting documents to assist in claims processing, cover
letters attached to cheques and other documents
(xxii) Prepare reinsurance credit and debit notes
(xxiii) Prepare cession slips for businesses ceded
(xxiv) Prepare preliminary loss advice and final loss advice to reinsurers
(xxv) Prepare Reinsurance certificates
(xxvi) Prepare Risk Profile to Reinsurers
Result Area 3: Leadership
(i) Assign work to the staff supervised
(ii) Supervise the work assigned to the staff in the position of Supervisor Reinsurance, and
provide guidance to them as necessary
(iii) Evaluate the performance of the staff supervised, in accordance with company policy
(iv) Participate in assessing the capacity development needs of the Reinsurance Supervisors and
Reinsurance Officers, and advise on appropriate programmes to address the identified needs
(v) Foster productive teamwork among the staff supervised

(vi) Monitor the motivation levels of the staff supervised, and propose necessary actions to
enable the staff perform to their full potential
(vii) Participate in the coaching and on-the-job training of new staff
Result Area 4: Institutional Management and Development
(i) Attend to both internal and external queries
(ii) Represent the Company in different meetings as and when requested
(iii) Maintain up-to-date data on the implementation of the programmes of the Reinsurance
Department, and advise the Manager Reinsurance on actions that need to be taken
(iv) Come up with ideas and suggestions for improvement in reinsurance services
(v) Attend and actively participate in meetings of the Department
(vi) Attend management meetings and present reports, whenever delegated by the Manager
(vii) Participate in the preparation of periodic reports on the activities of the Reinsurance
Department
(viii) Participate in the preparation of periodic reports for submission to the Regulator
(ix) Deputise for the Manager Reinsurance as requested or as necessary
PERSON SPECIFICATION: Assistant Manager Reinsurance
Minimum Academic and/or Professional Qualifications Necessary
Minimum of a University Degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration or Social
Sciences or Arts
Additional Training/Qualifications/Certification Necessary
A professional qualification in insurance (CII)
Minimum Experience and Exposure Necessary
A minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in Underwriting, Claims or Reinsurance, with 3 of
the years at a supervisory level
