EABL is a fully integrated beverage business in Diageo. It is the largest business unit in Diageo Africa covering the Eastern Africa (EA) region with a growing exports business. EABL is the 3rd largest listed Company on the NSE (with cross listing in Uganda & Tanzania). EABL directly operates 6 breweries, 3 distilleries and a barley & malting facility. EA has attractive fundamentals with ~100mn LPA+ consumers that are growing ~3% per year, a relatively stable political environment and sustainable GDP growth of 5-7%. Formal TBA penetration is still low at <~40%, indicating a significant headroom for growth.

The size of the alcohol market in EA is estimated at $4.5bn with Beer accounting for 60% and Spirits growing fastest at ~17% 5-year CAGR.

Market Complexity

EABL’s scale and margin profile, makes it critical for the success of Diageo in Africa and has been classified as a market leader in the Diageo Growth Framework.

All three core markets within EABL are at different maturities across categories and segments and as such, play different roles to support delivery of EABLs ambition.

EABL is listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), with Diageo as our majority shareholder with 65% shareholding through Diageo Kenya, and the rest of the shares held by local and foreign investors.

Purpose of Role

The role is in support of developing and delivering the long-term corporate strategy for EABL in the context of being a listed entity and our role for Diageo Africa and Diageo.

Additionally, support with effective communications of the company’s strategy, growth opportunities, financial performance and business initiatives in a way that creates clarity, consistency and widespread understanding among investors and analysts.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the HoS and EABL Exec on EABL’s strategy development. Capture and track actions arising from strategic reviews and support HoS to monitor progress.
  • Monitor, evaluate and compile information on the external environment, sector peers and partners for competitive analysis and intelligence. Disseminate this information along with commentary and insight from the investment community to senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Collect, analyze, and create reports for management and the board of directors to provide investors’ perceptions and opinions of the company.
  • Support in preparation of Annual Integrated Report, Business Reviews Decks, Board presentations, Investor decks and coordinating reviews as necessary.
  • Be part of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Annual Strategy Conference (ASC) cycle and ensure the plan is aligned to the business Strategy.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Graduate degree in the fields of Economics, Business or Accounting.
  • MBA an added advantage.

Experience & Requirements

  • 5+ years financial, commercial & market experience in analytical and decision support roles.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • Business Performance evaluation – strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Presentation, report writing and research skills.
  • Knowledge of local market environment & trends, government policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and Financial Modelling skills coupled by Presentation/Power point skills.
