The organization seeks to fill the position with an enthusiastic individual responsible for preventing harm to program participants, implementing the safeguarding policy, training staff and stakeholders, advocacy and risk management.
Safeguarding is crucial to the organization as its project implementation deals with children and vulnerable communities.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Custodian of safeguarding policies and procedures
- Review, update and communicate to staff on the organization’s safeguarding policy and ensure that the best practices are incorporated in all organization operations.
- Focal point for safeguarding to support staff with safeguarding concerns that may arise
- Work with programs and HR departments to ensure safe programming and safe people if efforts to create a safe organization.
Safeguarding risk assessment
- Conduct risk assessment on program implementation activities, program tools, and program participants and guide on safe staff recruitment processes to ensure no harm
- Monitor project progress as per objectives and ensure findings are incorporated in program implementation for continuous improvement and high-impact achievement
Child Protection
- In charge of reviewing and updating the organization’s safeguarding and child protection policies Working together with the programs manager to prevent abuse or harm to program participants
- Training staff, stakeholders and partners on child protection procedures as per organization policy
- Case management on supporting referral cases and protection of the child and their caregivers
Safeguarding reports and documentation
- Receiving and reporting safeguarding concerns
- Proper documentation of safeguarding issues
- Support the organization in its resource mobilization and fundraising efforts to address specific needs within the department.
- Preparing monthly reports and presentations
Stakeholder relationship
- Raise awareness to stakeholders on safeguarding and child protection issues
- Maintain an effective working relationship
Training and development
- Ensure that all staff, volunteers, stakeholders and vendors understand safeguarding
- Provide strategic insight on how to create a safe organization
- Responsible for resource mobilization for the organization’s safeguarding programs
Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in any social science
- 2 year’s experience in a similar role
- Experience in working with vulnerable communities
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation
- Experience in designing and conducting surveys, focus groups
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills
- Demonstrate commitment to working with children and young people
- Familiarity with donor requirements and reporting
- A resident of Kwale County is highly preferred
- A valid certificate of good conduct
