Job Title: Accountant (Import & Export – International Trading Company)
Location: Dar es salaam

Job Summary:

The accountant (Import & Export – International Trading) is responsible for managing financial transactions, cost analysis, tax compliance, and trade documentation related to global imports and exports. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, customs duty calculations, foreign currency transactions, and compliance with international trade regulations to support
the company’s global operations.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
1. Financial Management & Reporting
• Maintain accurate financial records for international trade transactions.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for import/export activities.

• Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, trade receivables, and payables.

• Analyze profitability, costs, and pricing for imported/exported goods.

2. Taxation & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with international trade tax regulations, customs duties, and VAT laws.

• Manage customs documentation and statutory filings with trade regulatory authorities.

• Stay updated with global financial regulations, import/export tariffs, and tax policies.

3. Cost Control & Foreign Exchange Management

• Track and manage logistics costs, freight charges, insurance, and customs duties.

• Monitor exchange rate fluctuations and implement currency risk management strategies.

• Optimize financial processes to reduce transaction costs in international trade.

4. Foreign Transactions & Trade Finance
• Process foreign currency payments and receipts, ensuring compliance with banking regulations.

• Work with banks for letters of credit (LCs), trade finance solutions, and payment terms.

• Reconcile foreign currency accounts and ensure accurate exchange rate application.

5. Inventory & Logistics Coordination
• Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to track shipments and ensure timely financial settlements.

• Ensure proper valuation of imported/exported goods for financial reporting.

• Monitor and verify import/export documentation such as bills of lading, invoices, and customs clearance records.

6. Audit & Internal Controls
• Prepare required documentation for internal and external audits related to international trade.

• Implement internal controls to prevent fraud and discrepancies in trade transactions.

• Maintain proper filing systems for invoices, trade agreements, and tax documents.

7. Communication & Coordination
• Liaise with customs agents, freight forwarders, and trade regulatory authorities to ensure smooth import/export operations.

• Coordinate with logistics, procurement, and finance teams to optimize financial management in trade operations.

• Provide financial insights and trade risk analysis to senior management.

Job Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA/ACCA certification is a plus.

• Experience: Minimum 4+ years of experience in import/export accounting, preferably in an international trading company.

• Skills & Competencies:

o Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, customs duties, and taxation.

o Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).

o Experience handling letters of credit (LCs) and trade finance transactions.

o Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cost-management skills.

o Ability to work under strict deadlines and handle multiple international transactions.

• Work Conditions:
o Office-based role with occasional travel for supplier audits and financial reviews.
o Requires flexibility in working hours due to international trade time zones.
o May involve extended hours during financial reporting periods and compliance deadlines.
