
Background
Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in partnership with Enabel is implementing the WeWork project that seeks among others to address gaps in employability and productivity of young graduates from universities and other institutions of higher learning through a Work Readiness Program (WRP).
The WRP supports university and TVET graduates to acquire practical experience through attachments to jobs in the sectors of agriculture, tourism and hospitality, and the green economy. The WRP will boost the soft skills of the graduates and equip them with the right workplace attitude to improve, their employability. The program is targeting total of 1,200 graduates.
Objectives
The WRP is an initiative that aims at providing soft and technical training for 1200 young Ugandans, aged between 18 and 35, and from the regions of Kampala Metropolitan, West Nile, Busoga, Rwenzori, and Albertine to access a first employment programme for 6 to 8 months across 360 companies. The objectives include:
- To apply knowledge acquired in their course of study in a real work environment.
- To acquire the skills and competences demanded by employers.
- To gain practical and professional experience in a given field
- To improve employability and provide an easier transition to employment.
- To build a broader professional network.
Who qualifies?
Applications are invited for graduates with degree, diploma and certificate holders from Universities/TVETs in Uganda for placements in different companies operating in the above mentioned sectors.
Eligible candidates should meet the following criteria.
- A citizen of Uganda originating from Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Jinja, Kamuli, Kasese, Fort Portal City, Kabarole, Kyegegwa, Hoima and Hoima, Arua, Yumbe, Madi-Okolo and Terego
- A refugee in Uganda.
- Completed and graduated with a bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate from a Higher Education Institution (Colleges and Universities)
- Aged between 18 and 35
- Not more than 5 years after graduation from a higher education institution (College and Universities)
Seeking work in the targeted sectors - Willing to commit to a 6-month work readiness programme.
How is it implemented?
Graduates will be equipped with the right workplace attitude to improve their employability and placed at companies to acquire practical experience. Graduates will receive an 80% monthly stipend contribution, Personal Protective Equipment and Group Personal Accident insurance during the first 6 months of the placement with a possibility of being given fully time employment by host companies upon good performance.
General conditions;
- The shortlisted candidates may appear for a virtual or physica interview at a venue that will be communicated by the host company. Additionally, Candidates will be required to produce all original certificates/testimonials during the interview.
- No Charges will be paid for attending the interview place, if selected
- Female graduates in male oriented trades within the targeted sectors are encouraged to apply.
- Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and refugees are also encouraged to apply
