NIGHT NURSE SUPERVISOR

MP Shah Hospital is seeking an experienced and dynamic Night Nurse Supervisor to oversee the hospital’s operations during the night shift.

Reporting to the DCNO, this role is primarily responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of all departments, upholding high standards of patient care, and addressing any emergencies or issues that occur during the night shift. The position involves supervising staff, coordinating interdepartmental activities, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:
· Leadership and Management:

  1. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff performance during the night shift.
  2. Conduct effective shift handovers and ensure clear communication between day and night teams.
  3. Address and resolve any conflicts or operational issues that arise.
  4. Ensure adequate staffing levels and make adjustments to assignments to meet patient care needs.

· Patient Care:

  •  Oversee the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the night shift.
  • Monitor patient conditions and ensure appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to patient and family concerns or complaints.
  • Oversee patient admissions, transfers, and discharges during the night.

Operational Management:

  • Manage daily clinical operations during the night shift.
  • Ensure the availability and proper functioning of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and shift activities.
  • Quality Improvement:
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • -Collect and analyze data to evaluate night shift operations and patient outcomes.
  • -Implement and monitor changes to improve the quality of care provided during the night.
  • Emergency Response:
  • Coordinate and manage emergency situations, including code responses, during the night shift.
  • Ensure staff are trained and prepared to respond to emergencies.
  • Collaborate with on-call physicians and healthcare professionals during emergencies.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination:
    Ensure smooth coordination and communication between departments and units.
  • Serve as the point of contact for administrative decisions and problem-solving during the night.
  • Foster collaboration between nursing, medical, and support staff for comprehensive patient care.
  • Staff Development:
  • Facilitate the professional development of nursing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify and address staff training and education needs.

  • Qualifications, Regulatory & Legal Requirements:
    Must be a qualified Registered Nurse (KRN/RM/KRCHN/KRNM/KRNMPH/BSCN).
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Valid licensure from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Experience working night shifts is preferred.
