Laboratory Technician

Job Purpose:
Supervise laboratory employees to ensure safe production of quality products that meet all targets and standards, hold teams accountable to the highest laboratory standards, ensure plant realizes production full potential and teams are aware of areas for improvement, Ensure compliance of laboratory procedures and practices. Drive continuous improvement throughout laboratory function and ensure integrity of all laboratory data.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all operations are carried out as per ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System at Distillery to achieve the quality standards.
  • Conducts all designated activities in line with providing an efficient service to the Production, Stores and SHEQ departments.
  • Participates in internal auditing exercises on various departments, ensuring that the processes are compliant with the relevant standard operating procedures.
  • Uphold the company’s safety, health, environmental and quality policies and procedures and to ensure compliance of all applicable legislation.
  • If any situation that is non-conforming to required standards, unsafe or unhealthy or anything that threatens to impact on the environment comes to your attention, report this to manager using the existing incident report system.
  •  Performs instrumental and chemical analysis on raw materials, in-process and final products and all relevant utilities.
  •  Perform inspections, as may be required, on final product that is being dispatched.
  •  Prepares and issues quality control reports and communicates this to the wider distillery team.
  • Captures analytical data on the laboratory information databases and maintain such databases in a manner to facilitate the easy auditing thereof.
  • Calibration of all analytical instruments in the laboratory.
  • Prepare reference standards used for analysis.
  •  Assist in the validation of laboratory equipment and test procedure.

Job requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Science and Lab Technology, in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology or any other related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Report writing.
  • Creative, innovative and team working skills.
