Volunteers/Peer Mentors

About Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation (TMF): Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation (TMF) is a registered National Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda founded by two former child mothers who turned their negative experiences into a positive action. TMF programs draw lessons from real life experiences to challenge and inspire adolescent girls and young women to embrace responsibility for their education, health and development of their community. The Organization’s mandate is to provide holistic programs that address critical needs of adolescents especially girls and young women while putting greater emphasis on ending teenage pregnancy, child marriages and empowering girls and young women to complete school and rise to their full potential.

Project Overview.

Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation is implementing the DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) project in partnership with 03 Comprehensive Partners namely; Reach Out Mbuya – Kampala district, Infectious Disease Institute – Wakiso & Masaka districts and  Baylor Foundation Uganda – Fortportal aimed at reducing the rate of HIV among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in the highest HIV burden districts.  Over the past decade, the number of people getting HIV has fallen significantly, but Uganda’s HIV infection rate is still one of the highest in the world. UNAIDS modelling data released in 2023 suggests that even if Uganda meets its 95-95-95 targets by 2025, almost 40,000 people will still get HIV each year. This makes HIV prevention an essential part of the country’s efforts to end AIDS as a public health threat. Most new infections occur among marginalized groups and adolescent girls and young women. Women are almost twice as likely as men to get HIV. HIV infections are not declining as rapidly among young people (ages 15-24) as other age.  The DREAMS partnership recognizes the need to address the individual health needs of AGYW as well as other critical socio-behavioral determinants, in support of meeting the Sustainable Development Goal of ending AIDS by 2030.

Under DREAMS project, TMF brings on board unique expertise in tested models such as Mentorship that has supported adolescent girls overcome emotional, psychosocial challenges that interfere with their stay and completion of education cycles thus exposing them to risks of HIV infection, teenage pregnancy, and child marriage in pursuit of survival means. To roll out the mentorship component, TMF will work through a network of Peer Mentors to effectively support adolescents successfully completing their primary and secondary school levels.
