Assistant Quality and Food Safety Manager

Join our team as an Assistant Quality and Food Safety Manager to ensure the highest standards of product safety and quality in the leading paper bag manufacturing company in Kenya.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in compliance with FSSC 22000 and HACCP principles.
  • Lead a team of quality controllers in monitoring and ensuring that all production processes, from raw material sourcing to finished goods, comply with food safety standards and internal quality specifications.
  • Review and update food safety and quality-related documentation, including SOPs, records, risk assessments, and reports.
  • Lead and assist with internal audits of quality and food safety systems to assess compliance with standards.
  • Perform supplier audits to evaluate the food safety practices of suppliers and ensure their compliance with our company’s standards.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented following audits and track the progress of these actions to completion.
  • Prepare audit reports and follow up with stakeholders to ensure findings are addressed and resolved.
  • Train and support employees in food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that team members are informed of the latest industry trends and standards. Stay updated on food safety regulations, industry trends, and best practices to ensure compliance with local, national, and international standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of external audits, regulatory inspections, and certification renewal processes.
  • Supervise facility hygiene and housekeeping, manage documentation and OPRP monitoring
  • Contribute to the development and execution of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of food safety and quality management systems.
  • Collaborate with production, sales, engineering and other departments to resolve quality or food safety, customer complaints and generate corrective action measures that drive process improvements via root cause analyses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or any other related field.
  • FSSC 22000 v6 and HACCP training
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards is essential.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food safety in a manufacturing set up
  • Proven experience in conducting internal audits and supplier audits, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety management systems, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively across departments.
